This pull-through Cleaning Kit is available in .22-6mm or .270-.308 sizes for under ten bucks, including jags, brushes, bore mops, and pull-cable with handle. It is a good “field expedient” cleaning system for hunters or tactical shooters who can’t carry a full-length cleaning rod or bore guide. This system works pretty good, just be careful when you pull the metal snap-connectors out the muzzle. As with any pull-cord-type cleaning product, you want to pull straight out the muzzle — NOT at an angle. CLICK HERE to watch Cleaning Kit product video.
If you’ve ever used a Gerber Multi-Tool, you know they work well. Gerber’s Method model offers all the attachments you could want with a comfortable steel and polymer handle. It is compact (6″ open or 4″ fully folded) and weighs just 8 ounces. On sale at just $34.88, it is half the price of an equivalent Leatherman tool.

Columbia River M18 Knife
Bargain Cave Item OG-518690
Reg: $39.99 | Sale: $19.88
This Editor has been very impressed with every Columbia River (CRKT) edged tool he’s tried. Build quality is high and the blades are strong and hold their edge. This M18 Carson knife features a 3.63″ AUS8 steel clip-point blade with Teflon® bearings at the blade pivot. The handle is hard-anodized T6 aluminum with black G10-type inlays. The M18 features Kit Carson signature touches such as the 180° circular pivot with dual thumb studs, and the “Carson Flipper” which speeds opening. This is a very nice knife for the money. You’ll find it elsewhere for up to $60.00. You may want to jump on this deal. I just bought FIVE of these, one for myself and four as Xmas gifts. Please watch the video for a detailed review, and an explanation of the locking system!
After wrapping up our coverage of the NRA Annual Meeting in Phoenix, we headed out to the Ben Avery Shooting Facility, located about 27 miles north of downtown Phoenix on I-17. There we had a chance to check out Ben Avery’s impressive range complex, which includes a Clay Target (shotgun) center, 1000-yard High Power range, 100-300 yard Benchrest range, rifle and pistol silhouette ranges, handgun ranges, smallbore range, Running Boar range, and a large, 53-bay, 200-yard main range.
At the main range we ran into Forum Member Troy D., who had a brand-spanking new Lester Bruno-built 6BR. While breaking-in his new 28″ Krieger barrel, Troy was using Sierra 70gr Blitz-Kings. Accuracy was impressive — the 70 grainers ripped tight, little knots in the high 2s, low 3s. Though his rifle has an 8-twist barrel, Troy was testing the 70s in preparation for a prairie dog trip next week. From what we saw, those p-dogs should be worried. Troy’s gun was a tack-driver with the Sierra Blitz-Kings.
Troy’s Compact Storage Box
While Troy was cleaning between groups, we noticed he was using a compact little box to hold his jags, brushes and patches. The box was the perfect size for these items. Troy explained: “If you’re just taking one rifle to the range, you don’t need to take a big gear box with stuff for all your guns. Apart from solvent, bore guide, and cleaning rod, this little box holds all I really need to clean my rifle.” Troy sourced the box at Cabela’s for $1.50.
In a surprise move, Remington Arms announced that current President/CEO Tommy Millner will be replaced by Remington Chief Operating Officer (COO) Ted (Theodore) Torbeck. Torbeck has been promoted to CEO and director of both Remington Arms and Freedom Group Inc., Remington’s parent company. (Freedom Group is owned by Cerberus Capital Management, a private holding company.) Millner will make a lateral move to take over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of outdoor retailer Cabela’s Inc. (NYSE: CAB). The 55-year-old Millner had worked for Madison, N.C.-based Remington for 15 years, including the past 10 as CEO of parent Freedom Group Inc.
We don’t know the “how and why” of this executive re-shuffling, and whether Millner decided to “jump ship” on his own or whether he was pressured to leave. Freedom Group Chairman Paul Miller issued a statement thanking Millner for his years of service, and stating that Torbeck would help Remington “expand into new markets.” Before joining Remington as COO in February of 2008, Torbeck held various positions at General Electric beginning in 1978. He was vice president of operations of GE Industrial from 2006 to 2008.
Now through December 8, 2008 (at midnight), Cabela’s is offering a heck of a deal. Buy anything in the store totalling at least $100.00, and Cabela’s will deduct $20.00 from the final cost. Yep, that even applies to sale items and “Bargain Cave” items. Is there a catch? Yes, you can only use this offer one time (so you can’t do multiple hundred-dollar orders to get multiple $20 savings.)
To qualify for this offer, click the link below. Enter an email address. Cabela’s will send you an e-mail with your Cabela’s Buck Rebate Number and Code. Supply this code when you “check-out” with your purchase.
What to Get for $100.00?
Consider purchasing some Black Hills remanufactured .223 Rem ammo. This is the same ammunition the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit uses in 600-yard matches. Very accurate, it can produce 2″ groups at 300 meters in accurized match rifles. The Black Hills “Blue Box” ammo comes 50 rounds per box. Black Hills offers a variety of .223 Rem loads from 52 grains to 77 grains. Loaded with 69gr Sierra MatchKings, the Black Hills ammo is $39.99 per box of 50. You could purchase three (3) boxes, and your total cost (after $20.00 rebate) would be $99.97 (not including shipping).
