C&J Donates Front Rest for Site Benefit Auction

Filed under: News — Editor @ 12 pm

Cayle Davis of C&J Machine has generously donated a new, custom-made, all-metal front rest to this website for auction. All proceeds from the auction will go to defray overhead expenses of AccurateShooter.com. Cayle will personally machine and assemble the front rest, and build the rest-top width and height to the winning bidder’s specifications.

C&J Front Rest

Rest Details
This is an all-metal rest with vertical adjustment. There is NO WINDAGE adjustment, so this is designed to be used by a bag-squeezer, or used with a windage-adjustable rear rest. The photo shows an ultra-wide top for a 6″ bag. Cayle will make the rest top to any width wanted by the winning bidder. Meaning if you want a 2.5″ top, or a 3″ top, Cayle will build it that way. Also Cayle can customize the height of the front rest. The prototype design was built for a customer with a 50-lb, 1000-yard Heavy Gun.

C&J Front Rest

Construction
This rest is all-aluminum with stainless hardware, 1 inch acme thread center post with dual locking knobs, aluminum and stainless spoke handwheel, knurled aluminum adjustment knobs, 16 inch diameter leg footprint. Finished weight is approximately 12-14 pounds.

If you have questions about the rest’s construction or operation, you can call Cayle at 217-526-3645 or cell 217-827-0588 between 9am and 2 pm Central Time, or email xpfuzz [at] consolidated.net .

Micro-Adjustable Reamer Stop From PT&G

Filed under: Gear Review, Gunsmithing — Editor @ 6 am

There’s a new tool available that should make the gunsmith’s job quite a bit easier. It’s such a logical, clever design, you wonder why somebody didn’t think of it years ago.

Co-Designer Nat Lambeth reports: “The photo shows a new tool called the Lambeth/Kiff Micrometer Adjustable Reamer Stop (Patent Pending). This is a add-on device that controls the depth a reamer can cut. It uses the reamer itself as the micrometer pinion and the barrel tendon face as the anvil. It does not matter where the tail stock or carriage is located, it measures off the reamer. It functions with a floating reamer holder too. These new Micrometer Reamer Stops have 50 indexing marks and will allow for .0005″ adjustments. The gunsmith can preset the Micrometer Adjustable Reamer Stop to about .020″ out and ream without worry. Then re-measure, adjust once, and make the final cut right on the money.”

These tools are available from Dave Kiff at Pacific Tool & Gauge, Nat Lambeth at NLambeth [@] embarqmail.com, and several gunsmith tool suppliers.
